DIN basics:
  • Who needs DIN: Every individual who is or intends to be a director of a company.
  • Eligibility: Minimum age 18; no disqualification under Section 164 of Companies Act 2013.
  • Documents: PAN, Aadhaar (for Indians), passport (mandatory for foreigners), proof of address.
  • How to apply: Through SPICe+ Form (during incorporation) or DIR-3 (for existing companies' new directors).
  • One DIN per person: Lifetime; valid across all directorships.
  • Annual DIR-3 KYC mandatory (proposed 3-year cycle from 2026 onwards for compliant directors).

DSC (Digital Signature Certificate):

  • Type required: Class 3 DSC for MCA filings.
  • Validity: Typically 1-3 years.
  • Cost: Rs 1,500 - Rs 2,500 from CA / licensed certifying authority.
  • For foreigners: Apostilled / Hague-Convention-notarised PAN/passport required.
