Stamp duty, registration and filing
An authority letter is usually written on plain paper and does not need stamp duty or notarisation, though some organisations ask for their own format. Attach self-attested ID copies of both persons. For transactions involving property or significant legal rights, a power of attorney is normally required instead.

Frequently asked questions
Is an authority letter the same as a power of attorney?
No. An authority letter covers a limited, routine task and is usually on plain paper. A power of attorney is a formal instrument, often stamped and notarised, and is needed for more significant legal acts.
What documents go with an authority letter?
Usually self-attested ID proof of the issuer and the authorised person, and any reference number or document the office asks for.
Can a company issue an authority letter?
Yes. It is signed by an authorised signatory on the company's letterhead. For GST matters, use the GST authorisation letter format.
