The Form 16 Reader opens your Form 16 PDF (Part A and Part B) inside your browser and lays out the figures: employer and TAN, gross salary, exemptions under section 10, standard deduction, Chapter VI-A deductions, taxable income, tax and the TDS deducted in each quarter. It also checks the arithmetic on the certificate, shows the tax regime your employer applied, indicates the ITR form that is likely to fit and lists what to compare with your AIS and Form 26AS. The file is not uploaded anywhere.

Your file stays on your device. The PDF is opened and read by your own browser. It is not uploaded, sent or stored, and the figures disappear when you close or clear this page.

Your Form 16 at a glance

Select your Form 16 PDF to see the summary here.

Select the Form 16 your employer gave you. Part A (the TDS summary generated from TRACES) and Part B (the salary and tax annexure) can be one PDF or two; select both together if they are separate. The reader is built for the standard Form 16 layout under the Income-tax Rules, 1962. Certificates designed differently by payroll software, or scanned copies, may be read only partly.

What Form 16 contains

Part A is the certificate of tax deducted at source on salary. It is generated by the employer from the TRACES portal and shows the employer's name, TAN and PAN, your PAN, the assessment year, and the salary paid and tax deducted and deposited in each quarter.

Part B is the annexure prepared by the employer with the salary break-up: salary, perquisites and profits in lieu of salary under section 17, exemptions under section 10, deductions under section 16, other income you reported, Chapter VI-A deductions, the tax computed and relief under section 89.

Form 16 shows what the employer considered for TDS. Your return must also include income the employer did not know about, such as bank interest, dividends and capital gains, which usually appear in the Annual Information Statement (AIS). Use the AIS / 26AS mismatch checker and the ITR form selector for the next steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my Form 16 uploaded to your server?
No. The PDF is opened by your own browser using the PDF.js library served from this website, and the figures are worked out on your device. The file and the figures are not uploaded, sent or saved, and they are cleared when you close the page or select Clear.
What is the password of my Form 16 PDF?
The password is set by your employer or payroll provider, not by the Income Tax Department, and is usually mentioned in the email that came with the certificate. A common pattern is the PAN in lower case followed by the date of birth, but formats differ, so check with your employer if it does not open.
What is the difference between Part A and Part B of Form 16?
Part A is the TDS certificate generated from TRACES with the employer TAN, your PAN and the tax deducted and deposited for each quarter. Part B is the annexure with the salary break-up, exemptions, deductions and the tax computed by the employer.
Why does the TDS in my Form 16 differ from Form 26AS?
Common reasons are a TDS return not yet filed or processed for a quarter, a wrong PAN or TAN in the employer's TDS return, or a correction statement still pending. The employer can file a correction statement. Claim credit in your return only for the TDS shown in Form 26AS or AIS.
Can I file my return using only Form 16?
Form 16 covers only the salary and the TDS from that employer. Before filing, compare it with the AIS and Form 26AS on the e-filing portal and add any other income, such as interest, dividends, capital gains or salary from a previous employer.
