What it is

A turnover certificate states the turnover of a business for one or more financial years, as shown by its books and financial statements. Government and private tenders, the GeM portal, banks and licensing authorities ask for it to check eligibility. Only a practising Chartered Accountant can certify it, after verifying the figures with the audited accounts, GST returns and other records. This page and the template show the usual format for reference; it is not a certificate.

A certificate is issued under the ICAI Guidance Note on Reports or Certificates for Special Purposes and must carry a UDIN, which the recipient can verify on udin.icai.org. The definition of turnover differs between purposes, for example revenue from operations under the Companies Act, aggregate turnover under GST, or turnover for MSME classification, so the basis must be stated.

Frequently asked questions

Can I prepare my own turnover certificate?

You can prepare the statement, but only a practising Chartered Accountant can certify it and generate a UDIN for it.

Is GST turnover the same as turnover in the accounts?

Not always. Exempt supplies, non-GST income and timing differences can make them differ, so the certificate states the basis used.

How is a turnover certificate verified?

Using its UDIN on the ICAI portal, udin.icai.org.
