80G Donation Receipt Format
Issue a donation receipt that carries the details a donor needs: your registration number and validity, the donor's PAN, the amount and the mode of payment.
Law version: Up to FY 2025-26 (Income-tax Act, 1961); Tax Year 2026-27 onwards (Income-tax Act, 2025). Checked on 26 Sep 2026.
What it is
A donor can claim a deduction for a donation to an approved trust, society, Section 8 company or fund: under Section 80G of the Income-tax Act, 1961 for donations up to 31 March 2026, and under Section 133 of the Income-tax Act, 2025 from 1 April 2026. The receipt given at the time of donation records the transaction. The deduction itself is supported by the annual certificate the institution issues after filing its statement of donations: Forms 10BD / 10BE up to 31 March 2026, Forms 113 / 114 from 1 April 2026.

Stamp duty, registration and filing
The institution must file the statement of donations by 31 May after the year and issue the donor certificate; the donor's deduction is matched with that statement. Donations in cash above ₹2,000 do not qualify, and donations in kind do not qualify. The receipt should show the approval number exactly as on the approval order and should not be issued for amounts not received. Check the current due dates and form numbers on incometax.gov.in.
Section and form numbers follow the receipt date: Section 80G and Forms 10BD / 10BE up to 31 March 2026; Section 133 and Forms 113 / 114 from 1 April 2026.

Frequently asked questions
Is the donation receipt enough to claim 80G?
Keep it, but the deduction is matched against the statement of donations filed by the institution and the certificate it issues (Form 10BE up to 31 March 2026, Form 114 from 1 April 2026).
Can a donor claim a deduction for a cash donation?
Only up to ₹2,000 in cash. Larger donations must be by cheque, draft or electronic transfer.
What changes from 1 April 2026?
The deduction is under Section 133 of the Income-tax Act, 2025, and the statement and certificate are Forms 113 and 114. The receipt itself still records the same details.
