EPF Withdrawal Application Format
Prepare the details for a provident fund withdrawal: final settlement, pension withdrawal benefit or a partial advance.
What it is
Members of the Employees' Provident Fund can withdraw their PF balance on leaving employment or retiring, withdraw the pension (EPS) amount where they do not qualify for a monthly pension, or take a partial advance for purposes such as housing, illness, marriage or education. Historically these were Form 19 (PF final settlement), Form 10C (pension withdrawal) and Form 31 (advance). Most claims are now filed online through the EPFO member portal using the UAN and Aadhaar. This template collects the details in one place.
When it is used
- Final settlement after leaving a job and not joining a covered employer.
- Withdrawal of pension contributions where service is less than ten years.
- A partial advance for a house, medical treatment, marriage or education.
- Checking details before filing an online claim.
What the template covers
- Member name, father's or husband's name and date of birth
- UAN, PF account number, PAN and Aadhaar
- Last employer, date of joining and leaving
- Reason for leaving and type of claim
- Purpose of advance and amount
- Bank account and IFSC

PF withdrawals are governed by the EPF Scheme, 1952 under the social security law. EPFO revised the partial withdrawal conditions in 2025; check the current categories, limits and waiting periods on epfindia.gov.in before applying. TDS may apply when PF is withdrawn before five years of continuous service; furnishing PAN avoids a higher rate. Interest earned on employee contributions above the annual limit is taxable each year.

Frequently asked questions
Can I withdraw PF online?
Yes. Members with UAN linked to Aadhaar, PAN and a bank account can file claims on the EPFO member portal without the employer's signature in most cases.
Is PF withdrawal taxable?
Withdrawal after five years of continuous service (including service with earlier employers whose PF was transferred) is generally exempt. Earlier withdrawals may be taxable and attract TDS.
Should I transfer PF instead of withdrawing it?
Transferring to the new employer's account keeps service continuous for tax exemption and pension, so it is usually preferable when changing jobs.
